PHOTO LIVE - live streamed artist conversations

This event has passed

We are excited to announce that the second season of PHOTO LIVE is broadcasting this month.

Across five live-streamed events, this season will address a range of issues from identity and belonging to human rights and social justice, highlighting the importance of centring black, Indigenous, feminist and queer voices and storytelling.

We are pleased to feature artists from The New Black Vanguard: Photography between Art and Fashion, in partnership with Bunjil Place. Presented exclusively in Australia, this Aperture Foundation exhibition features a new generation of black photographers turning the camera on the black body. Dana Scruggs and Quil Lemons from USA and Stephen Tayo from Nigeria will be in conversation with Melbourne-based creatives Grace Dlabik, Ruth Nyaruot Ruach, and Shantel Wetherall.

Paola Balla (Wemba Wemba/Gunditjmara) and Tashara Roberts (Dja Dja Wurrung/Yorta Yorta) will be in conversation to discuss Koorie Heritage Trust Inc Affirmation exhibition – exploring the concept of truth in the context of place, ancestral identity and cultural pride.

To close the season, QueerTech.io – a collective of queer-identifying new media artists in Melbourne – will be in conversation with Dutch artist Rosa Menkman. Both feature in the upcoming RMIT Gallery exhibition The Image Looks Back, in which artists, photographers and technologists explore the impact of machines viewing and making photographs on the human experience.
