Get creative with this free, inclusive and hands-on workshop inspired by Shaun Gladwell: Pacific Undertow and Project Art Works film, Illuminating the Wilderness (2018).

Set your own pace with this drop-in style workshop led by MCA Artist Educators and artists from Project Art Works. Inspired by MCA exhibitions, head to the Creative Studios to make your own film magic with green screen and digital artmaking, join Project Art Works for a collaborative drawing workshop, and enjoy a range of other hands-on activities.

This event is part of the Art is for Everyone weekend, a free two-day celebration of access and inclusion, and is presented in partnership with the The Big Anxiety, Australia’s largest mental health event.

What to expect?

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore art making in response to different MCA artworks in a fun and inclusive environment. As part of these free workshop activities, there will also be several opportunities to engage with our Bella Plus and Bella Plus Connect participants who will be hosting tours and craft activities. Bella Plus Connect is a monthly community drop-in program for individuals and groups with disability or access requirements.

You can also give yourself some time out and visit our 2019 Bella Room to enjoy artist Liam Benson's artwork, hello, good to meet you. Immerse yourself in this tactile, multi-sensory space where you are invited to explore and play.

Who can attend?

Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to roll their sleeves up and get creative with our MCA artist educators for this free workshop.

About Project Art Works

Project Art Works is the UK’s leading artist led organisation working with children, young people and adults who have complex support needs.

Illuminating The Wilderness is a new film produced by Project Art Works and was conceived and directed by Kate Adams and Tim Corrigan. It was filmed in a remote corner of Scotland with filmmaker Ben Rivers, Margaret Salmon and neurodiverse artists and makers, families and carers.

The film is being shown as part of the EXPLORERS project, a three year program led by Project Art Works of art and conversation in partnership with cultural organisations across the UK and in Australia.

Project Art Works will also be hosting a series of large scale collaborative drawing workshops responding to Illuminating the Wilderness that will result in an installation. This installation will be on display from Saturday 5 to Monday 7 October in our National Centre for Creative Learning on Level 3.

The EXPLORERS project is supported by the Arts Council Ambition for Excellence Programme and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
