The Girl / The Woman
A Double Bill
This event has now passed.
Twelve years in the making, semi-autobiographical play, The Girl (Shortlisted for the Phillip Parsons Playwriting Award, 2015 and nominated for the West Australian Arts Editor Award, 2016) and its companion piece The Woman follow two generations of Australian Arab-Muslim women.
What starts as a small seed of doubt for a young Muslim girl soon spirals into a world of confusion as she discovers her sexuality. As her body changes and values begin to clash with her upbringing, beliefs and her mother, she turns to the only friend she can rely on.
Tender, intimate and dangerously funny, The Girl and The Woman is a collision of desire and tradition, impulse and faith and past and present. Presented for the first time as a double bill, this world premiere questions what it means to be a good woman and whether to inherit history or break free from it.
The Risky Stuff: This production contains adult themes and strong sexual themes
Running Time: Approx 2 hours
Presented by Riverside's National Theatre of Parramatta and Riverside Theatres in association with Apocalypse Theatre Company
