When did you become a Playwaver and what drew you to become a Playwave Creative?

I came across the Playwave Creative program in October 2022, while in my final year of high school.

I was at a point where I wanted to learn more about the arts and deepen my exposure to the amazing works we have in Sydney. To be able to be exposed to all different types of theatre and strengthen my ability to express the pieces I see, was something that I really wanted to be a part of.

What is keeping you busy in 2023?

I have recently started studying Music Theatre at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Who or what inspires you creatively?

I have a huge passion for music theatre. This idea of combining dance, music and acting all together in a theatrical story is something that I have grown to really appreciate over the years. Being a performer, but especially a singer, I think music's ability to transcend a story and really create this awesome living atmosphere is so unique and interesting.

I love being taken into different worlds and music theatre as an art genre is so unique in the way that it transports people onstage.

Life is such an interesting and crazy place and I think storytelling really helps you explore through every moment and inspires such an important fire in us all.

How has being a Playwaver impacted your experience of the arts in Sydney?

By being a Playwaver, I have been able to experience such a wide range of theatrical pieces across Sydney - I have really loved being able to reconnect with so many homegrown Australian works!

The program has enabled me to discover awesome, new skills which have allowed me to better critique, interpret and reflect the pieces I see.  Whether it be the story, the performers onstage or the staging, I have really enjoyed being able to use my creative skills as a performer and create my own unique voice to more thoroughly appreciate theatre as an art form.

Your top 3 picks for the best places to experience the arts and live performance in Sydney.

I have had such an awesome time watching theatre in Sydney and my best picks have to be:

1. Wharf 1 at the Sydney Theatre Company

2. Capitol Theatre and Sydney Lyric Theatre

3. The Stables Theatre at Griffin Theatre Company

They are all so different, but all have such a special atmosphere that I think really helps bring the audience into the work that's being put on.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I have been learning Mandarin for five years!

What has been the best arts event you’ve been to this year?

The best event I have been so far would have to Hairspray at the Sydney Lyric Theatre! The energy throughout the show was so high and fun. I especially loved getting up with the whole audience and jamming out to the classic Hairspray showtune "You Can't Stop the Beat" at the end of the bows!

What arts events are you most looking forward to this year?

So many great pieces on the way! But I am so looking forward to seeing Wicked in Sydney this year! It’s one of my favourite shows.
