Create for change: Activism in the arts

Create for change: Activism in the arts

In this exciting, interactive event you’ll learn how you can use art to challenge perceptions, raise awareness – and even change the world.

This event has now passed.

You’ll hear from a diverse panel of guest artists and creatives whose work has a special focus on activism and inclusion. They’ll share their personal journeys and insights into the key role artists play in raising awareness of environmental, political and social issues.

After the discussion, you’ll have the chance to meet the speakers and other attendees in an interactive networking session. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet practicing artists and discover opportunities to collaborate and create change in your own community.

The panel discussion will be moderated by MC and activist Kween G and will feature guest panelists including:

  • artist, musician and academic Safdar Ahmed, founding member of the Refugee Art Project, which conducts art workshops with refugees and asylum seekers in detention
  • writer, musician and zinemaker Bastian Fox Phelan, part of dream pop duo Moonsign
  • writer and designer Fayroze Lutta, whose passion is the enduring fight for affordable housing and accessible public space
  • illustrator, photographer and painter Blak Douglas(Adam Hill), whose landscape interpretations are flavoured with messages of social justice and political commentary.
  • multi-disciplinary artist Willurai Kirkbright, Wiradjuri woman, educator and facilitator focused on truth telling and empowering disadvantaged minorities.

This is a free event for young people aged 16 to 25 years as part of Youth Week in the City.
