In Amanda Kramer’s super stylish feminist update to Lord of the Flies, a birthday party devolves into chaos when an earthquake traps eight teenage girls alone in a house.

This event has now passed.

Presented as part of the 2019 Sydney Film Festival

Operatic and aesthetically very ‘now’, Amanda Kramer’s impressive debut retells William Golding’s classic through a female lens. This generation’s conch is a healing crystal, the beastie is a male intruder, and war paint is an extreme Insta-glam makeover. Barely equipped to cope with the perils of a teen birthday party, the mettle of the eight attendees is tested when a mysterious earthquake traps them alone in the house. Bedlam ensues as the girls kick into cake-fuelled survival mode, challenging their friendships, identities, and eventually their grip on reality. The inventive, cacophonic score and pitch-perfect performances of this claustrophobic chamber piece combine to create a truly immersive viewing experience.
