Nooks and Crannies: Volume 2 (Premiere)
In the second installment of this unique live music series, we celebrate iconic architecture and artistic expression in unexpected and spectacular unseen spaces inside Sydney Opera House.
Moses Sumney: Hypnotic soul-folk artist Moses Sumney plays his enchanting hit ‘Don't Bother Calling’ in the Joan Sutherland Theatre orchestra pit to create a secret moment occurring behind closed doors. Moses never performs a song exactly the same way twice—he always experiments subtly with each new rendition which ultimately results in a rare, completely one-off performance captured on film.
Kelsey Lu: The singer, songwriter and producer took over the intimate Studio to perform a stripped back, minimal version of the pulsating, Jamie xx co-produced track ‘Foreign Car’ under the laser-lights of the dark club, visually curated by Sam Whiteside.
The National: Cult US rock band The National play in the shadow of the Sydney Opera House sails in the Utzon Room for this intimate performance of 'Hard To Find' from their 2013 album, Trouble Will Find Me. It would be hard to find a better location to host this session, with the vibrant Utzon Room tapestry and natural light elevating the recording session to something truly special.
Camp Cope: The Melbourne trio transform the Utzon Room to perform 'The Opener', the scathing opening track from their album How To Socialize & Make Friends. The song speaks directly to issues not only of representation, but also indie rock's virtue signaling issues.
Courtney Barnett: The Australian singer songwriter presents a sunny-solo rendition of 'Sunday Roast' in the iconic Bennelong Restaurant. Prepare for a melt in the mouth moment and truly memorable experience with the fresh and delectable sounds of Courtney Barnett.
Kevin Morby & Waxahatchee: Waxahatchee and Kevin Morby bring their effortless indie rock in a soul-baring, captivating performance recorded while visiting Sydney in 2018 when they joined forces for an intimate gig in the Opera House Studio.
Party Dozen (Premiere): Party Dozen is the experimental sonic project of Sydney-based musicians Kirsty Tickle (Exhibitionist) and Jonothan Boulet. Bringing together amplified saxophone, looped guitars and percussion, the duo perform their track “Play the Turth” on a vacant Drama Theatre stage.
