Walk the line between truth and fiction as four wordsmiths, hidden in our galleries, emerge to tell you their side of a story. Be guided through the themes of Sun Xun’s incredible exhibition and be taken on an unconventional storytelling journey.

Presented in collaboration with Word Travels as part of Conversation Starters: Truth or Dare, a weekend of art, questions and discussion – inspired by the work of Sun Xun.

About the poets

Elliot Cameron

Elliot is a spoken word artist, poet and educator based in Sydney. In 2017, he was a finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam Sydney Final and Bankstown Poetry Slam. Elliot has been involved with the Rumble Youth Poetry Slam Workshops and the 2018 WORD LIVE performance responding to MCA Collection exhibitions Wordand Jon Campbell.

Jesse Oliver

Jesse is a Perth-based slam poet known for his conversational style and exploration of lived experiences including homelessness, gender transition and mental illness. Reigning Adult Champion of the 2017 Australian Poetry Slam, Jesse has appeared on national platforms, including the Emerging Writers Festival, the National Young Writers Festival and the Australian Poetry Slam National Final.

Srisha Sritharan

Srisha is an Australian-born Tamil poet who explores contemporary socio-politics through spoken word performance. In 2017, she won the Australian Poetry Slam NSW State Final and appeared in Vertigo Magazine and ABC Lateline. Her recent work ‘FAKE NEWS’ features her winning slam over Kendrick Lamar's 2015 track ‘These Walls’.

Eunice Andrada

Eunice is a Filipina poet, journalist, lyricist and teaching artist based in Sydney. Featured in The Guardian, CNN International, ABC News and other media, she has also performed her poetry in diverse international stages, from the Sydney Opera House and the deserts of Alice Springs to the United Nations Climate Negotiations in Paris. Eunice co-produced and curated Harana, a series of poetry tours led by Filipina-Australians in response to the Passion and Procession exhibition in the Art Gallery of NSW. Her first poetry collection Flood Damages(Giramondo Books) was published earlier this year.

Word Travels is a not-for-profit organisation committed to empowering people to speak for themselves with creativity, passion and authenticity. Word Travels organises literary and literacy programs for schools, libraries, cultural institutions and festivals in regional and remote communities across the Asia Pacific. Key initiatives include Story-Fest: 3-day performing writers festival, The Rumble: Young Performing Writers Program and the annual Australian Poetry Slam (APS), which encourages people across the entire nation to stand-up and have their voices heard; culminating in the APS National Final.
